Now Available: Quail Print!

A few people have requested it, so I decided to make my quail painting from a couple months back into a print. It's 5x7, making it easy to frame, and printed on premium matte paper with archival inks.

New Bunny Dumpling Print

Sometimes when I get stuck on what I should paint, I revisit old ideas. I thought about how popular my dumpling pieces for Grumpy Bert's Red Envelope Show were and decided to do a different version of them. The pieces from the show sold and no prints will be made from them, so I thought this newer variation would be great for anyone who wants to own a similar piece.

New: Puppy Face Dish

I've been working on some new ceramics for the shop. Working with clay has been an old love of mine, but due to lack of resources I haven't been able to do it for a while. But now I have access to my friend's tiny studio, so I'll be making more new stuff soon. The first of many new ceramics to come is this Puppy Face Dish. Available in the shop now!

New Mixtape Buttons + End Of Summer Pop-Up

I've been having a little too much fun with our new button maker. I'll pretty much come up with any excuse to make new buttons. While designing some hangtags for the mixtape plushes, I made two cute little mixtape illustrations that I decided to make into buttons. They're available in the shop!

Also, if you're local to the LA area, I will vending at an End Of Summer Pop-Up this Sunday Sept. 6th 11am–4pm at Spirit House in Monterey Park. There will be three local bands playing and the bar & kitchen will be open during the event, so you can grab some grub & drinks. Come hang out and support some local artists!

New in the Shop this Week

As I sell through the remaining 1in. Real Job Buttons, I'm releasing the new 1.5in version of them. Not only are they bigger, but they got a bit of a facelift too. The first two to be released are: Marathon Napper & Pillow Fort Architect. You can get them now in the shop!

Sad Songs Mixtape Plush

I've been working on my first plush toy ever. The basic model is just a sad little mixtape, but I'm planning on having some one-of-a-kind versions that will be exclusively available at Designer Con. I've been trying out different sizes, and made one of the prototypes available in the shop. I'll be announcing the final version soon.

Lucky Little Friend

I've been working on adding plush to my current offerings in the shop. I've been brainstorming things to make for DesignerCon in November and plush toys were an obvious choice. I've always wanted to make my own plushes, but was afraid of getting started. I recently got a new sewing machine as a way to motivate myself to experiment and try new things. I made this little guy a couple of days ago and just added him to the shop. There's currently only one available and you can get him here in the shop.

Bigger & Better

We got our new button maker this week and I made a bigger version of the Lucky Cat button. I like this version a lot better than the 1inch version because the details look crisper. Also, I'm having a sale right now for 4th of July Weekend. Get 25% off all orders with code: HAPPY4TH

I Only Have Eyes For You

I've been trying out some new things and making brooches out of polymer clay. It's been nice working with a 3D medium again. I made a couple of these eye brooches, available in black & blue. Each one is hand-sculpted & hand-painted, making them unique; no two are exactly alike. You can find them in my shop!

New in the Shop: Love Letter Brooch

Last week, Kevin and I registered to be vendors at DesignerCon 2015. Even though it's 7 months from now, I'm starting to work on some new products just for the show. One the things I'm making for the show are new brooches. The first of which are these Love Letter Brooches. Each one is handmade, hand-painted, and unique! They're currently available in the shop and there's more on the way!

Bunny Boy

I've been working on some new stuff for the upcoming Artist Walk at The Community in Anaheim. It's this Saturday, July 19th 6–9pm. Come by and say Hi! I'll have some prints & cards for sale and I'll also be doing some live drawing/painting.

One of the newer prints, that will be available on Saturday, is this Bunny Boy. For those of you not in the area, he's already up in the shop!

Hello Sunshine!

Today, I added a new card in the shop. The weather has been super hot and super summery and spring just barely started! I don't even want to think about how hot it will be when summer finally comes. I've been drawing lots of summery things, since I'm not really into a lot of spring things other than fruit. So here's a happy little sun.

New in the Shop: Pear Drawing

I've been drawing a lot of fruit lately as I look forward to all the Spring & Summer fruits. I'm starting to sell original drawings in the shop in additional to all the prints and greeting cards. All original drawings are one of a kind.

Now available in the shop.

Summer Treats

I've been working on some new stuff for the shop. I wanted to stay away from buttons for a while, but then I decided to just try a few out as a way of doing mini drawings. These were inspired by the summers of my childhood.

This is the Summer Treats Set currently available in the shop and also on Etsy.

There's a New Shop in the Works

This has been on my mind for quite some time—the thought of opening a second shop. I've probably mentioned this before, but as my shop grows my Etsy fees keep piling up. Since October of last year, I've been paying at least $20/month but lately it's closer to $30-40/month. In the past, I've paid as much as $65 during a busy month, which I think is totally outrageous for how small of an operation my shop is. I love the Etsy community and all the exposure it's brought me, but the fees are killing me and sucking up so much of what I make. Aside from being a freelance graphic designer, my shop is currently my only other source of income so I really depend on it doing well.

(And that's probably the most money talk you'll ever hear come out of me.)

I've been dabbling with the idea of having a Big Cartel shop for a very long time. I've had a free account for about 5 years and just upgraded to a paid account earlier this year. I love everything about their platform and their monthly fee is affordable. Their lowest paid plan which is $9.99/month sounds a lot better than what I'm paying Etsy right now. The only major downside is that I get significantly less traffic going to it than with Etsy, which means I have to do significantly more marketing work to get it out there.

About 5 years ago, there was a moment in time when I considered changing my major from graphic design to illustration. I ended up deciding on sticking to graphic design because I had already invested so much time and so many units to it. Going through graphic design really opened my eyes to the world of branding, which has helped me a lot since being out on my own. But since graduation, I been having this itch to pursue illustration again. I've always loved stories and storytelling. When I was younger, I went through a poetry phase that later grew into an interest in creative writing. And what I love about illustration is it's a way of telling stories visually. I keep tons of notebooks & sketchbooks (hell, I even make my own!) and I have so many stories down on paper that I want to turn into real things; either as illustrations or zines.

I've also been feeling burnt out from Quiet Tiger. Because as much as the products do reflect my personality, to some extent they're also dictated by what customers expect from the shop and what's selling. Essentially, I started feeling like I'm just "the witty button girl". But don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful that a lot of people really love them. I just want to try something new and do more exploration & experimentation, which is why the new shop I'm working on is focused on personal work. For the new shop, I'm simply just going to make work that reflect me and how I'm feeling. A lot of it will be original drawings, prints, and eventually zines.

I'm currently working on new work for the new shop and hope to have new items up next week, so keep checking back. And of course, you can also follow me on Twitter to hear about when new items are added. In the meantime, some of the new mini pouches and cards are up in the shop.

You can find the new shop here.
